The Art of Writing

Posted on Tuesday, March 29, 2011

I take my hat off to the Threeview writers. Their art is not an easy one.  We have a handfull here, led by Alex Handcock, Threeview’s Editorial Manager. At any given time they are pushing out copy for clients including the EPO, Atlas Copco, Linde, Allianz, and about a half-dozen others.

The reason for my rant now? I am for the first time in six years working on a research paper of my own. And I gotta say it is harder than I remember. To write well, one has to get a fair amount of knowledge on the topic at hand. This comes through research and interviews and a number of other fact-gathering exercises. Try writing without enough knowledge, and you will end up staring at a blank computer screen. You will get nowhere.

Threeview Design Atelier Nights

Posted on Thursday, February 24, 2011

A few months back, one of the designers on my team (Katharina Lanz) suggested during our weekly meeting to start the Design Atelier Nights every Tuesday. Monday was out of the question as that was our designated going out team night, mostly to our local bar “Faun”.

The first sessions started with each one of the team members presenting their portfolios and some personal work. Once that first series was done, we introduced watching films that would hold either an artistic value or just plain interesting. And so it began.

Threeview is on board as a sponsor for his year’s Fotodoks event, a forum for documentary photography. It boasts photography talent from throughout Germany, displaying their work on wide range of topics including a behind-the-curtains view of models in the fashion industry, a series portraying bunkers in Switzerland, and a look at the taboo topic of eroticism for elderly people. Threeview’s go-to photographer Hansi Herbig is among the organizers of the annual four-day event, which takes place at Puerto Giesing in Munich from October 14-17.

A jury chose twelve photographers’ work from 130 submissions. The best piece of work on this year’s topic “Inner Worlds“ (Innenwelten) will be presented on October 16.

Working like a “son of a pitch”

Posted on Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Every time we hear the word “pitch” it means party time. This allows us to try new things and get the creative juices flowing. Not too long ago we actually made fun of agencies that didn’t want to participate in pitches anymore. While sometimes excrutiatinly painful, a pitch is necessary to remind us that to succeed at anything effort is required. What easy come easy goes, so better to burn the midnight oil once or twice every few months and keep the edge on. We do apprectiate clients that are coming directly to us by recommendations or just out curiosity, but we are not afraid or stepping out our comfort zone and pitch when we have a substantial reward at the end of it all. If you have a pitch for us… Bring it on! we are up to the challenge.

Permanent Beta

Posted on Sunday, February 21, 2010

Some time ago I heard someone say: “Don’t wait for perfect, just change it as you go along”. This small phrase can go a long way. With the new batch of websites spawning from Threeview.com we will contstantly updating, changing and refreshing as time passes. We decided to keep them in a state of “Permanent Beta”. As you might probably know the term Beta in the software industry refers to a version that is not yet prefect but good enough to spread around. I strongly believe that everything improves over time and with the feedback of all our collaborators we will have better microsites. We’l keep you posted.
