Don Draper: Says who? Just so you know, the people who talk that way think that monkeys can do this. They take all this monkey crap and just stick it in a briefcase completely unaware that their success depends on something more than their shoeshine. YOU are the product. You- FEELING something. That’s what sells. Not them. Not sex. They can’t do what we do, and they hate us for it.

Last week when I was in Düsseldorf I wanted to go from Golzheimer Platz to Nordpark /Aquazoo. Aparently an easy task for a savvy city rat like myself. After living in some many countries with very different subway systems, I was expecting to simply follow the map and get there. However this is what I encountered:
At a first glance I thought to myself “this is the wrong train”. To my surprise it was indeed the right one. In case you are wondering what’s wrong with this picture, I would ask you to look at it again.
“Mankind Is No Island” by Jason van Genderen. The winner of the 2008 shortfilm fest Tropfest NY, entirely shot using a mobile phone in NY and Sydney. If you are wondering what does this have to do with Advertising? the answer is: absolutely nothing… I just want to point out that it is after all possible to create entire movies using a mobile phone.
Last year Threeview was one of the proud to sponsors of the Festival für Dokumentarfotografie (Fotodoks). This year we are back on board to give our support.
The festival kicks off with the “UNGLAUBLICH-INCREDIBLE” exhibition at the Stadt Museum in Munich, followed on Thursday with a presentation from Magnum photographer Thomas Dworzak. The Festival will be however held in different location throughout Munich.
Included this year, there will be a Magnum Workshop Munich. A five day intensive, photography workshop led by experienced Magnum photographers: Christopher Anderson, Thomas Dworzak and Paolo Pellegrin.
If you have a smartphone, video is certainly nothing new. Most smartphones offer the possibility to play local video or over the internet. The promise of faster connections seems to be around the corner, but we know already than in places like Japan (the mobile test bed of the world) superfast connections have made possible TV Channels on the mobile phones. It is not surprise that advertisers are eager to recycle their Ad spots and get them mobile. However this is not a good idea for a medium so personal, intimate and in which relevant content is expected. We’ve learned our lessons from the internet and we know that the 30 sec spot will not work.
